Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., won his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race of the 2009 season at the inaugural race inside Lucas Oil Stadium before 61,538 fans, tying the AMA Supercross class points race. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Austin Stroupe, of Lincolnton, N.C., won the first Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites class race of his 2009 season.

Reed opened the AMA Supercross class main event with the holeshot, leading his Rockstar/Makita Suzuki teammate Mike Alessi, of Apple Valley, Calif., and San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart, of Tampa, Fla., through turn one. The next 20 laps would be the Reed/Stewart show.

The AMA Arenacross Series reached the halfway point of its three round West Coast swing at Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and after an exciting 25-lap main event, Triple Effect Kawasaki's Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville, Ohio broke through for his first win of the 2009 season. In the always competitive AMA Arenacross Lites class, Reynard Modifications Suzuki's Cory Green, of Nowata, Okla., outlasted his competition to capture the win in the second round of the Western Regional Championship.

After an up and down season, Sellards overcame his competitors to reach the top step of the podium after a lengthy drought. Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda's Nathan Skaggs, of Chillicothe, Ohio, grabbed the holeshot and led through the first half of the main, but Sellards persevered to take over the top spot.

"I want to thank Charlie and Mary Lee from Triple Effect Kawasaki," said Sellards. "Some people thought I was too old, but I showed them I can still do it. I want to thank the fans for coming out tonight because they are the ones support us."

As the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, made its East Coast debut, a near capacity crowd inside the world famous Georgia Dome watched San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart, of Dade City, Fla., take his seventh win in a row and seventh victory of the season en route to stealing the points lead from Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla. In the AMA Supercross Lites class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Christophe Pourcel, of Corona, Calif., grabbed his second win in a row in the Eastern Regional Championship to extend his points lead.

Since race two of the season in Phoenix, Ariz., Stewart has been undefeated and has consistently gained ground on reigning champion Reed. While Reed has been a picture of consistency, following Stewart with seven straight runner-up finishes, including tonight, he has surrendered three points a race over that span and now sits behind Stewart by the same deficit.
