The Nanaimo track direction will be reverted back to the original direction. Work will start his weekend (11th and 12th March) The track will be closed until the work is completed...expect the track to stay closed for the following week and perhaps the following weekend. Stay tuned for progress reports. Work party at the track on March 11th...ALL help is welcome. Russ

good progress this weekend on the new track changes.....it's gonna be TOTALLY AWESOME. There's still a lot to be done so work will continue this weekend. At this point the track is still closed for riding until further notice. Russ

Track will be re-opened as soon as it's ready. Works continues this week...it's all volenteer so at reduced pace during the weekdays. Hopefully this weekend , but more likely the track will still be closed until the end of the weekend. The new rythem section is gonna be SO AWESOME, can't wait to see you guy's hucking the double at the top. Also love the new right hander 180 after the plateau that will set up a new infield section which rejoins the original back stretch between the water tanks and pond. Russ

you can say you don't like it !!! LOL i haven't ridden it yet but ive been hearing some rumors !!
narrow ,less flow ,one lined and a slower track even compared to the track not many raved about before i'll agree with ya suzukimxrider6 the old track of the 07 nationals was sweet and needs to come back
hopefully next weekend i'll get up there and ride it for myself !

thats whta i have heard . still rebuilding bike so. planning onm getting out there for the first time since first week of feb and try it out.. 07 was the sickest track sooo much flow. jumps were mint and high speed. could have made the track sisckier i they just slapped in a new section or put some new obsticles instead of flipping it. cause now its gay

For those that are misinformed and/or like to trash talk on hear.....The track is not finished yet! The club only had the machinery for a few days and didn't get to finish everything off. I was talking to the track rep last Sunday and he was asking for input on what we thought of the track so far.
I personally like the new layout, but some of obstacles and parts of the track have no flow to it.
This is my personal opinion on what might help out the track (from start gate to finish line)
1 The plateau jump.... remember back in the day it used to be a step up double. You could go for it and land on the down slope or come short and land on the top. It was kind of like a single onto a tabletop. that was a fun jump!

2 The new infield after the plateau. There should be a big berm in the new 180 corner going back to the back straight away. That corner is going to cause some pile ups the first lap of a race. It's vary single lined and kind of tight (for nanaimo standards) Everyone is going to go though that corner single file if it stays like that.

3 The new rhythm section. I don't mind the first single onto table top part, but a rhythm section is supposed to slow you down and be more technical. The only guys that are going to double , double that section are top pros. I just came back from socal and rode allot of tracks that had step on, step offs and camel backs that were really easy to do and allot of fun. I personally would try to put 3 obstacles in that section, like a camel back, step on/ step off, and a little triple. The wastelands has allways been a high speed track. I think we should slow down some parts of the track.

4 The new straight away after the rhythm. That would be a great place for some whoops, not like the big ones that we had at the finish line years ago, just some nice high speed ones you can pound though with your bone stock suspension.

5 Berms berms and more berms...There's allot of flat track corners after that straight away (and some that are off camber) I personally think that everyone in a race will be trying for the inside line and won't have any passing options. I'm not saying to build some huge catcher mitt berm that will turn into a lake in the wet season. If it's a wide and long corner you can keep your speed up and stay low, so you only have to make the brem a few feet high, but a tight 180 supercross style corners would need more of a (catcher mitt) style berm. I would try and stay away from those tight 180 corners and make all those infield corners wider to keep your momentum and speed up.

6 Dropping down into the hole before the beer garden jump. Something needs to slow you down in that section of the track. Your caring so much momentum in this section that you really have to put on the binders when you get to the beer garden jump. Back in the day there used to be a little floater step down going into that hole that was really fun. It was just a little bump at the top and you floated down into the hole. The great thing I liked about that jump is you could go 10' or jump all the way down to the bottom of the hole cause the landing was really long

7 Beer garden jump is great but what happen to the berm after that? When the track was nice and wet /sticky that used to be a great outside line

8 Step down is great! It's exactly the same as the first time I jumped it back in the day.

9 The step up. I think it needs to be pushed back a bit more so you could keep your speed up and jump further and stay lower. Right now it's more of a booter jump that throws you straight up in the air and you need to slow down allot to land it right.

10 The rest of the track lay out isn't to bad. The finish line tabletop and the little tabletop on the straight away before that needs to get fixed. In my opinion you should never make the take off of a jump smaller than the wheel base of a dirt bike. Those two jumps have really small take offs. Small take off are notorious for bucking rider over the bars.( acceleration, riders body position and preload)... if you don't have them all figured out, you will surely go into a nosedive and be in a world of hurt in small take off jumps. I personally would make another fast rhythm section in the straight away before the finish line and make the finish line the way is was a few years ago ( a single onto a table).... nothing big, just something easy and fun to do.

This is just my two bits on what I think might help out the flow of the track and I'm sure, (without being to critical or cynical) the wastslands club would like more ideas from there members on what might make the track better

MBR132 always knows some good ideas for the track. We went up there to take a look last week. What people have to realize is that you can't change a track over one weekend. It was obvious to me that they started to "lay out" the general idea of the track but that it will take more work to get it ready. I understand they have the equipment all lined up again for this weekend. Let's all hope the weather is favourable for them.

The club seems to back on a roll again, lots of communication by way of the website being updated regularly and the e-mails that they forward out. There is even a first set of minutes for 2010 on there already. I like the new mission statement of what this executive wants for the club.

Congrats to all the hard working previous volunteers and the exciting "new blood" that is helping out.

2010 is looking very positive for the NMA!
